Written in the summer of 1901, 'Lost to the World' has become one of Gustav Mahler's most popular and much loved works. Amazingly, it was only published by his wife after his death in 1911, ten years after it's original composition.
It is very much a cousin of the equally famous 'Adagietto' from his 5th Symphony. It's peaceful melody, and subtle harmony and accompaniment are all reminiscent in the symphony, of the same year.
This arrangement for solo Flugelhorn and brass captures the serene mood of the original and is a calming addition to any programme.
