Double Bass Solo Parts & Viennese Tuning Included
In this concerto, Efrain Oscher follows the tradition of many Latin American composers, such as Ginestra, Piazolla, Márquez or Villa-Lobos. He uses South American traditional and folk material to create works presented within Western forms.
The first movement, Allegro, begins with the Guarachoso ma non troppo playing technique, a reference to cumbia, which is very popular in Venezuela.
In the second movement, Andante, the music begins with a Baroque-style theme, followed by variations, ending in tango ecstasy - a tribute to Astor Piazolla.
The cadenza that opens the third movement is based on the Cuban musical style guaguanco. This is followed by a passage of flamenco and jaropo, the most popular style of Venezuelan folk music. Both styles serve as a platform for the soloist to display virtuosity and passion - elements that are not lacking in any Latin American concert.
This edition includes the double bass solo parts and Viennese tuning. Performance material is available to hire.
