Born in New York City on 8 February 1932, John Williams is one of the best known and most influential composers of film music, having composed music for more than 100 films.
John Williams' music for Star Wars is particularly notable for its epic quality and use of leitmotifs associated with specific characters and scenes. Williams drew inspiration for the composition of this music from Gustav Holst's Planets, particularly "Mars, the Bringer of War".
His talent for writing epic and emotional melodies has also earned John Williams numerous awards, including five Oscars and 25 Grammy Awards.
