The history of the editions of the 15 symphonies of Dmitri Shostakovich is a long and complex one. After the completion of the Ninth Symphony in the years 1944/45, the score appeared in print in the former Soviet Union. Later editions in the West, including the one by Sikorski Music Publishers, were based on this example. Within the framework of the complete edition of the Shostakovich works D-S-C-H, a repeatedly revised and corrected version was made in recent years that was incorporated into the newly corrected and improved pocket score edition by Sikorski. The “revised edition” of Symphony No. 9, Op. 70 published in February 2016 is thus the most modern edition, revised with great scholarly care.
